Collecting data with #drones and making it useful to #engineers involves determining and accessing multiple launch locations that provide line of sight, establishing ground control and a base station to ensure #geographic integrity, assessing weather, complying with FAA regulations to protect our licenses, managing several wifi connections and battery levels, mission planning to collect the right data at the ideal altitude and speed, safely landing an expensive, delicate package, often in tight spaces in high winds and on busy job sites and, lastly, processing and converting the data in the correct coordinate system.

#RTR recently completed a #survey combining #gpssurvey and #bathymetry to create an existing ground model after a bridge collapse. We surveyed for a day with the damaged bridge still in place and a 2nd day after it was removed. #bathymetricsurvey allowed us to map the creek bottom.

It's become our tradition to ceremonially retire a #hockeyjersey bearing the number of years of service of the retiree. Power line sag verification is as easy as #Bernie makes it look:
Find access to the span to sag, extend a rod 15 feet in the air with a sagometer (thermometer encased in a length of thick wire) attached to check wire temperature, establish ground control with #gps .Resection with #robotic #totalstation to establish base setup, switch to #reflectorless #roboticsurvey, enter weather conditions into the #rtr designed app, robotically shoot each connection point for each wire on the span, calculate the angles for 1/4 of the length of the span, turn the angles and roll down to the correct wire and take a measurement at each 1/4 location. Repeat for each wire. Collapse the rod, recheck temperature, record into the #rtr app and move to next span. Repeat. Import survey data and app data into a custom formatted spreadsheet and print. #surveyingiseasy #powerline #electricpower #leica #jeepgladiatorrubicon #berniesandersmemes #wehaveanappforthat #trimble #survey #landsurveying
