Hitching a Ride

Hitching a Ride

RTR’s surveying department hitched a ride recently aboard a fishing boat with Top Water Marine Guide Service to stake core borings on an island in the Susquehanna River. The existing structures in the photos are to be replaced. Core borings are obtained in the area of new construction to determine the nature and/or thickness of underlying rock and soil. The survey staff at RTR have decades of experience and state of the art equipment to get any job done.

The RTR family is heartbroken to share the news of

The RTR family is heartbroken to share the news of the loss of one of our own. Mr. Tom Feaser passed away on November 25th, 2023. Tom was a lineman, foreman, and system operator with over 40 years’ experience and worked for RTR as a construction manager since 2021.

Tom was beloved by all of us at RTR for his patience, humility, attention to detail, and constant good humor. He exhibited the honorable personal qualities we all aspire to emulate in family, work ethic, faith, and friendship.

We are blessed to have known Tom, to have spent time with him, and to have worked alongside him during his years at RTR. While we mourn his loss, we consider ourselves fortunate to have celebrated his career, to have wished him well in his retirement less than a week before his passing, and to have told the man directly that he was loved and would be missed.

The RTR family (and we do not use that word casually) is the lesser for this devastating loss but greater for the blessing of Tom’s presence in our lives for the time we knew him. “Sweet, kind, gentle, soft-spoken, humble” are just some of the words used to describe our friend. We all have influences like Tom in our past, present, and future. Recognize the gifts they give us and share them. Tom’s was a life well lived.

Collecting data with #drones and making it useful to #engineers involves determining and accessing multiple launch locations that provide line of sight, establishing ground control and a base station to ensure #geographic integrity, assessing weather, complying with FAA regulations to protect our licenses, managing several wifi connections and battery levels, mission planning to collect the right data at the ideal altitude and speed, safely landing an expensive, delicate package, often in tight spaces in high winds and on busy job sites and, lastly, processing and converting the data in the correct coordinate system.

It's become our tradition to ceremonially retire a #hockeyjersey bearing the number of years of service of the retiree. Dave has 42 years of service and spent the last three and a half with us as construction supervisor. Dave's unique mix of experience, and good humor will be sorely missed and cannot be replaced. We wish Dave and his family good health and every happiness moving forward.
